Tantalum capacitor powder
Tantalum is twice as dense as steel, highly ductile, extremely hard and has the fourth-highest melting point of all metals: 3,017°C. Its ability to form an extremely thin but complete and protective oxide layer makes it the material of choice for high-quality capacitors. Because of its high reliability, tantalum is also often used in medical technology.

Sodium-reduced tantalum powder for capacitors with low and medium capacitance
Our tantalum powders with lower specific surface areas (up to approx. 1.5 m2/g) and larger grain sizes, which can be used to manufacture low to medium capacitance tantalum capacitors for medium to high working voltages, are particularly suitable for use in the production of capacitors for consumer electronic devices, where reliability is more important than component size. They are produced from potassium fluorotanatalate (K2TaF7) by means of sodium reduction.
Magnesium-reduced tantalum powder for high-capacitance capacitors
The trend toward smaller and smaller devices with more and more functions, however, demands an increasing number of high-performance capacitors. This is where sodium-reduced tantalum powders reach their limits.
However, by using the magnesium reduction of tantalum oxide, we have succeeded in developing a completely new process for manufacturing high-performance tantalum powders. The magnesium reduction makes it possible to manufacture powders with extremely large surface areas, an extremely homogeneous grain size distribution and an extremely low amount of impurities. These powders are suitable for manufacturing the next generation of tantalum capacitors with extremely high capacitance in an extremely small space.
